Berezhanskyi Sklozavod LTD is a peculiar visiting card of Berezhany, a picturesque town in the west of Ukraine.
The construction of the factory was begun in 1958. In one finished building there were arranged production and glass finishing workshops.
The factory was put into operation in December 19, 1961 and the first production from this works appeared in January of 1962. At the newly built factory 286 people were working, 200 of which took part in its building.
During the year there was produced glassware at the total that was twice as the planned production capacity.
The construction of the factory was continued in January of 1969. There were developed new production facilities that 4 times exceeded the original ones. The glassware was decorated with diamond engraving, gold, free-blown glassware was made.
During 1960-1970s glassware was produced from green and pink halftone glass. Later there was mastered neodymium-doped glass production.
In 1970s there were considerable changes in product range. The plant started producing stemware in European forms: glasses for cognac, champagne, white and red wine.
In 1971 a new stem vacuum forming technology was implemented. Nowadays in the entire stemware blown product range a stem is formed with this method.
The products of Berezhanskyi Sklozavod was supplied in almost all former Soviet Union republics. Since 1978 the glassware has been decorated with silk screen printing. It is with this technology a lot of souvenir products were decorated with the 21st Moscow Olympic Games attributes. For the high quality of work the Committee of the 21st Moscow Olympic Games awarded the factory with a diploma.
In 1980s the factory starts to produce candleholders and big vases. In 1983 there was started the production of lampshades for domestic lamps; a totally new method of decorative edge forming was mastered to produce them.
The year of 1990 became a real breakthrough in the works’ activity. For the first time in Ukraine there was implemented a new hot condition edging technology for small and medium items using oxygen cutting machines. Nowadays the upper edge of some big items is cut with this method.
The products of the factory has always been remarkable for its rich and complex decorating using hand painting with paints and gold, high enamel overlay. Mastering different decorating techniques and growing demand for decorated products lead to a decision to set up in 1993 a separate scene workshop.
In 1994 a new process of cutting glass on oxygen cutting machines was commercialized. That made possible to raise labor productivity and to reduce wastage.
In 1996 they started to decorate glassware with tempera paints using powders.
During last 10 years low temperature water-based paints or low temperature organic-based paints with different gals and powders have been used for decoration at the factory.
Since 2006 the product range of the glassworks was extended with large articles – up to 100 cm.
In 1994 by resolution of the General Shareholders’ Meeting The state Berezhanskyi Sklozavod enterprise was reorganized as a Public Liability Company.
In October 28, 2009 there was established Berezhanskyi Sklozavod LTD.
